Cardinal Newman High School was established in 1962. The Roman Catholic Church was expanding rapidly throughout South Florida during this period, and the Diocese of Palm Beach wanted to keep pace with the region's growing Catholic population. The school was named after John Henry Newman, a nineteenth-century English churchman and theologian whose work shaped Catholic education and intellectual thought.
